Four years ago, FIFA World Cup mania brought the flags out in Maplewood and South Orange.

Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Italy, the U.S. and more were represented in colorful displays on front porches and lawns — spotlighting just how diverse our community is.

World Cup 2014 promises to be no different. Already flags are popping up as the World Cup debuts this afternoon at 4 p.m. with a game between Brazil and Croatia. (We photographed three houses on Prospect Street alone.)

Once again, St. James’s Gate aims to be World Cup central for the towns. A large-screen television has been place over the fireplace in the dining room. The Gate will be screening every World Cup game and offering World Cup drink and food specials. Check your listings for game times.
