Did you know that a vote for Emily Hynes also maintains Sheena Collum in the remaining two years of her four year term as Village Trustee? Yes, that means that a vote for Emily is a “win, win” for South Orange: Hynes will bring balance and perspective to the Trustees’ table; while Collum will continue her vivacious advocacy for South Orange.
As past President of the Montrose Park Historic District Association, and a long-time South Orange resident, I have served and continue to serve as a preservation advocate and active thinker on several Village committees, including the South Orange Smart Growth Committee. With that perspective, I wholeheartedly endorse Emily Hynes for Village President.
Hynes is running a strong grassroots campaign for Village President and residents are wowed by her analytical nature and keen legal mind. As an attorney, Emily has specialized in coordinating complex toxic tort cases across the nation, managing policyholder relationships during insurance coverage disputes, and addressing environmental and pollution litigation. Her advocacy skills were honed in the fast paced courtrooms of Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Locally, Emily is an active volunteer in her children’s classrooms and the PTA. She also serves as her daughter’s Girl Scout Daisy Troop Leader.
Emily is ready to take a close look at the rate of development in South Orange and how that development fits with both the South Orange Vision Plan and our Smart Growth plan. She has spoken out against the recent action of the Trustees designating the entire Village as a Rehabilitation Zone, a dangerous and bold action which we must reverse. Emily recognizes the significance of historic preservation and that preserving the past also protects the future architecture and distinct neighborhoods of South Orange. Emily also believes in enhancing the growth of small business, addressing the growing parking and traffic issues in our downtown, and building a better relationship with the Board of Education.
We need a new voice on the South Orange Board of Trustees and that voice is Emily Hynes. I believe that Hynes will serve as a counterbalance to a current board that is way too comfortable in its unanimity of thinking. South Orange is ready for Emily Hynes. On May 12th, vote “Line A” for Emily Hynes – a leader who believes in smart, responsible growth, that will be sustainable in the long term. It’s a “win, win” for South Orange! Polls are open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
