The South Orange-Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is seeking donations of travel size toiletries for the homeless — to be collected on Monday, January 16 at the Annual Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Columbia High School.
Paricipants can “make an instant impact in the life of a homeless person.” The items will be used to make care packages at the Coalition on Race’s 16th Annual MLK Day of Observance and Volunteer Fair. The care packages will be given to MEND to distribute. Most needed: tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, gloves, socks, lotion, washcloths, tampons and sanitary napkins.
MEND (Meeting Emergency Needs with Dignity) is a coalition of eighteen faith-based food pantries in Essex County, New Jersey. The MEND anti-hunger network has been providing emergency food and resources to individuals and families in crisis for more than thirty years.
The interfaith service takes place at 2 p.m. in the CHS auditorium. Toiletries will be collected and packaged at the Volunteer Fair and Reception to follow at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
