The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School will be hosting “An Evening of World Jazz: Celebrating People and Their Art,” on Friday evening, October 10 at the Columbia High School Auditorium.
The event features Niko Higgins, a saxophonist, composer and ethnomusicologist, who holds a Ph.D from Columbia University. Higgins received a 2006-2007 Fulbright Hays DDRA fellowship for his ethnographic fieldwork on fusion. He is the leader of the Niko Higgins Ensemble, which has released two CDs.
The event takes place from 7-9 p.m. It is free.
According to a release from the Adult School, World Jazz is a musical fusion that combines South Indian classical music and elements from rock, western jazz and world music.

This is the first of a series of presentations that celebrate artists and their work with a focus on ethnomusicology. The series is a new collaboration of the Marshood Family Foundation and The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School.
