The following is from the Springfield Avenue Partnership.
The Springfield Avenue Partnership (SAP) announced a calendar of events presented by Maplewood businesses and organizations through the month of February, in honor of Black History Month. Programs will include everything from art exhibits and music performances to a make-up consultation and small business funding seminar.
The Springfield Avenue Partnership invites community residents and visitors to celebrate Black History Month on the Avenue by participating in both fun and educational activities and events for children, families and adults, examples include a special evening of art and education presented by Evelyn Graves at the Hilton Branch Library, an art exhibit at Gallery 1978 featuring the work of Juan Antonio Picasso, a descendant of Pablo Picasso, and a special make-up consultation at the Hair Chalet.

The Partnership provided a grant of $100 as a supporting sponsor to any district business or community institution in the special improvement district that scheduled an event as part of the Black History Month celebration.
“The partnership is proud to sponsor these events on Springfield Avenue,” said SAP District Manager Julie Doran. “We are pleased so many businesses and organizations are offering exhibits, discussions and other celebrations in honor of Black History Month.”
The month of celebrations is highlighted by an afternoon of music, art and delicious food, celebrated with friends and neighbors on Sunday, February 21 at Astah’s Gallery, 1897 Springfield Avenue at 3 pm. The Springfield Avenue Partnership and Astah’s Gallery present the event, which features Tonia Rayvocals and the TR Band. And Springfield Avenue’s newest business, Wine Barrel, will be providing a selection of wines. The event is free of charge and open to all.
