Whoopi Goldberg was in South Orange last week filming a movie, but only a few locals knew about it.
Last week, some members of the film crew quietly inhabited rooms at the South Orange Elks Club as they filmed at a Victorian home nearby.
The house, at Prospect Street and Village Road in South Orange, had been outfitted for scenes from The Christmas Pearl, based on the Dorothea Benton Frank novel.
A prop sits outside the home last Friday.
According to the IMDB website, The Christmas Pearl is about a “93-year-old matriarch of a South Carolina family who has gathered for a tension-filled Christmas at her stately home. When her usual maid is called away, a Christmas miracle presents itself as Pearl [played by Goldberg], the maid to the matriarch’s grandmother, who comes back to the family as a ghost.”
However, according to Village Clerk Susan Caljean, who processes filming requests for South Orange, the project has been put on hold. Crew were wrapping up and removing equipment last Friday.
