Just in time for the holidays, Wine Barrel — Springfield Avenue’s new wine, spirits and craft beer shop — has opened and locals are flocking to the store to check out the selection.
The 64-ft beer cooler is solidly stocked, and owner Atul Gupta and manager Matt Westenberger are filling the wine shelves as fast as they can. While the selection in the 5,000+ sf store is already pretty impressive — Wine Barrel has labels that span the globe — Gupta promises to obtain any brand or varietal that customers suggest.
The store is clearly upscale (Westenberger, for one, previously worked at the Wine Library in Springfield) and is looking to be a major player in the community. Already, Gupta has stepped up to the plate by sponsoring the Springfield Avenue Holiday Celebration.
Westenberger reported the store’s hours as follows (these are the hours through the holidays and all year ’round):
– Mondays to Fridays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
– Sundays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Another great attraction for those looking to shop at the Wine Barrel: Westenberger noted the store’s plentiful parking and easy access via Springfield Avenue and Prospect Street.
Note to customers: Entry to Wine Barrel is through the door facing the parking lot door.
