Peter Genovese of NJ.com‘s Munchmobile visited Maplewood’s Park Wood Diner yesterday and he liked what he saw — and ate.
“The stone-and-Spanish-tile-front diner is a fixture in the Essex County town. In the booth behind me were four ladies who come here every other Thursday without fail,” wrote Genovese. “Across the way were Maplewood residents Linda Freeman and her husband, Jim.”
Genovese also noted the huge menu and the fact that the Park Wood is know for its salads. Munchmobile’s favorite? The Warm Goat Cheese Salad: “One of the top 2 or 3 salads tried so far, and I’ve tried plenty.”
Mayor Vic DeLuca even got a shout-out.

The Park Wood Diner, located on Springfield Avenue in Maplewood, earned the Munchmobile visit after earning first place in a recent online readers poll for “Best Diner in North Jersey,” hosted by NJ.com. (See full poll results here.)
The Park Wood is now in the running to be named best diner in New Jersey — after the Genovese visits all 40 finalists — later this month.
