The three candidates for Maplewood Township Committee agreed on most issues — except one.

Officials say the move follows on a lower volume of curbside leaf piles due to homeowners & landscapers performing more mulching & composting.

Since moving here in 1989, Adams has played pivotal roles as an environmental activist, a champion of economic redevelopment, and even named one of Maplewood’s best-known neighborhoods.

“We are so fortunate that 100 years ago, this small new municipality had the civic pride and ambition to hire some of the best landscape architects of their day to create a great public space. A place that as Percival Gallagher of the Olmsted firm noted, must reflect the ideals of the town. … Just such a place guides our efforts today.”

Last year, Seth Boyden students were able to divert about 30 lbs of food per week from landfills. This year, students are poised to triple that amount, and will see the benefits as they use their compost in the school garden this Spring.

South Orange is preparing to rebid Phase 2 of its portion of the Greenway; meanwhile, Maplewood Deputy Mayor Deb Engel is meeting with the school district, which owns a portion of the Greenway area.
