Approximately 500 participants from Girls on the Run New Jersey East program sites in Essex, Morris, and Union Counties will take part in the Florham Park PBA/Knights of Columbus Turkey Trot 5K Saturday, November 19 at noon at Holy Family Church.

“I can’t wait for the 5K because running through the finish line will be one of the best moments of my life,” says local third-grader Ellie.

Girls on the Run is a physical-based youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd-8th grade to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Since September, trained volunteer coaches have been meeting with the girls twice per week to lead lessons that foster the girls’ confidence, help them build connections with their peers and encourage meaningful contribution to their community through a service project. Running is used as a tool to reinforce lesson topics. The 10-week program concludes with all participants completing the Florham Park PBA/Knights of Columbus 5K, which will give them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.

Girls on the Run currently serves girls in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and has had over one million total participants.
