Because Maplewood voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump by a margin of 9 to 1, there has been something of a collective mourning period in the town post-election.
Many residents are also seeing the election results as a call to action. Some are planning to attend the Million Women March on Washington, D.C. on January 21. Others are joining causes, while still others are contributing to organizations that support civil liberties, women’s reproductive healthcare and more.
One small effort in this vein comes from the Facebook group Maplewood Moms.
From Cathleen Mitchell: “A whole bunch of local moms (and dads) via the Maplewood Moms Facebook page are holding a bake sale on Saturday, December 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Maplewood Village. Proceeds will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).”
It’s a humble effort, but it’s a start.
