The following is from the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges:
To help neighbors in need, Maplewood and South Orange residents are invited to register for the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges’ 22nd annual golf tournament on Monday, Sept. 19. The cost for individual golfers is $525 and $2,100 for a foursome, and includes the full day of golf and all evening activities.
Proceeds from the event at the picturesque Montclair Golf Club go to the financial assistance fund for the South Mountain YMCA and the Metro Y’s five other branches. Since 1994, the tournament has raised more than $1.4 million to support children and families who are struggling, said Metro YMCA Chief Development Officer Lisa Kelly.
“This is a fun way for people to support their community, knowing the money that’s raised gives individuals and families access to programs that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,’’ Kelly said. Golfers will enjoy a delicious brunch before the 11 a.m. shotgun start. The event includes refreshments throughout the day, afternoon cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and a live auction.
The Metro Y will also announce the winner of the 2016 The Kenneth A. DeGhetto Champion’s Cup. The award recognizes a spirit of generosity, sportsmanship and an unwavering support of the Metro YMCA and it mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Retired Foster Wheeler Chairman, Kenneth DeGhetto, was the first recipient, in 2011.
Non-golfing participants can register online for the evening festivities, at a cost of $125. The event will be held at the Montclair Golf Club, located at 25 Prospect Ave. in West Orange. Local businesses are encouraged to show their support of the Y through the purchase of tee signs for $300. Tickets for the 50/50 raffle are $50, and only 300 tickets will be sold, so the winner could win up to $7,500. Raffle tickets and tee signs can be purchased at the South Mountain YMCA.
