Hanukkah 2016 will start the evening of Saturday, December 24 and will end the evening of Sunday, January 1, 2017.
Locals can celebrate the Festival of Lights commemorating the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem with two local Menorah lightings:
The Maplewood Dickens Village Menorah Lighting will take place on December 27 @ 6:15 pm – 8:00 pm in Ricalton Square in Maplewood Village, presided byRabbi Sholom Bogomilsky of the Maplewood Jewish Center and featuring gelt, hot latkes, music and more.
The South Orange Village Center Menorah Lighting will take place on Thursday December 29 @ 5 p.m. in Spiotta Park and will be led by Rabbi Jesse Olitzky of Congregation Beth El in South Orange and will feature hot chocolate and jelly donuts.
(Note: The Menorah at the Gazebo on Springfield Avenue in Maplewood — next to the Hilton Branch of the Maplewood Library — will be lit throughout Hanukkah; however, the official lighting ceremony took place on December 11 with the Springfield Avenue Winter celebration.)
