Here’s a bizarre holiday travel story with a local twist: Security personnel at Newark International Liberty Airport discovered an ice pick concealed in the handle of a Maplewood man’s cane on Christmas Eve, according to a report from CBS New York.
Transportation Safety Administration officials described the man as “older” and said he was wheelchair bound. The steel ice pick was discovered after the man placed it on the conveyor belt and it went through the X-ray scan machine.
The man was pulled out of line and determined not to be a threat. According to CBS New York, “Port Authority police confiscated the cane and an officer gave the man another cane from the airport’s lost and found so that he could catch his flight.”
The name of the Maplewood man was not released.
