The man arrested and charged with the attempted robbery of the Maplewood Wells Fargo is also responsible for two other incidents in Jersey City and Summit, NJ, said a representative of the Jersey City Police.

Jersey City Police Information Officer Jennifer Morrill reported that it was Jersey City police who effectuated the arrest of 37-year-old John Walsh yesterday after he was identified and traced to his Jersey City home.

Walsh was charged with robbery after he was connected to three bank robberies, said Morrill, one in Jersey City, one in Maplewood and one in Summit.

“On Friday, July 15 just after 12:30 p.m., Walsh [allegedly] entered the Wells Fargo Bank on Central Avenue wearing sunglasses and a black tee shirt and approached the teller window and passed a note which read ‘give me all your $50 and $100 bills and don’t press the alarm,'” said Morrill.

The teller handed Walsh $250 at which point he allegedly fled the bank with the money and the note. The Jersey City Major Case Squad was notified and responded to handle the investigation.

“On Wednesday, Violent Crimes Commander Captain Michael Gajewski was notified by the F.B.I. that a male matching the description from the Wells Fargo robbery has just robbed a bank in Summit, NJ and one in Maplewood, NJ,” said Morrill. “Further investigation by Major Case Detectives led to a positive identification of Walsh as the actor.”

Captain Gajewski, Lieutenant Mark Conroy and Detectives from the Major Case Squad along with the F.B.I. traveled to Walsh’s home and placed him under arrest. He was later processed for the Maplewood incident at the Maplewood police station.

Morrill said that a search of Walsh’s residence and vehicle “led to the recovery of evidence [allegedly] further linking the actor to the three bank robberies.”

Maplewood Police reported Walsh allegedly was ran from the Maplewood Wells Fargo and was chased by a bank employee.

“No threats were made and no weapons were observed or implied,” wrote Sgt. Christopher Black of the Maplewood PD in a release.
