Easter Sunday was a holiday for most people, but it was business as usual — and then some — for the firefighters of the Maplewood Fire Department.
In the morning, firefighters successfully performed CPR and defibrillation on a 71-year-old man who collapsed at the train station after getting off the train with his family, said Deputy Chief Joseph Callaghan. “He was in full cardiac arrest,” said Callaghan. Rescue 36, Engine 32 and Tower 31 responded, initiated CPR and delivered two shocks to the man, reviving his heartbeat. He is at the hospital in serious condition but expected to survive, Callaghan said. “Quick response and great work by Platoon 1.”
Early evening, a West Orange couple was out for a drive in their historic 1974 Porsche when they heard a popping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, said Callaghan. The couple got out of the car and a passerby called 911. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. There were no injuries, but the car was a total loss (see photo below).
Thanks to the MFD for their work!
