The Maplewood Fire Department and South Orange Rescue Squad responded to two calls in Maplewood Village this week that both led to a great deal of police activity and questions and concern from residents.
MFD Chief Michael Dingelstedt gave The Village Green the following information:
At 8:42 p.m. on Dec. 10, Tower Ladder 31 and Deputy 1 responded on a first responder call to a report of someone choking at St. James Gate. Rescue 37 was on another medical call at the time and South Orange Rescue Squad responded on mutual aid. Firefighters tended to the patient until the arrival of the South Orange ambulance, who transported the patient to Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
At 7:36 p.m. on Dec. 9, Rescue 37 responded to a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle in front of the Maplewood Country Club. Firefighters provided medical care for non-life threatening injuries and transported the bicyclist to Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Fortunately, the bicyclist was wearing a helmet, which prevented her injuries from being more extensive.
