Maplewood Man, 22, Killed in East Orange Shooting Sunday

Ahmad M. Crudup, age 22, of Maplewood, was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m. last night after being shot in East Orange, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and East Orange Police Chief William Robinson announced that authorities are investigating the shooting incident that occurred late Sunday night July 5, in East Orange, NJ.

Crudup and three other men were shot shortly before 11:30 p.m., on the 200 block of South Clinton Street.

All victims were transported to University Hospital in Newark. Crudup succumbed to his injuries, but the other three victims were treated for non-life threatening wounds, according to Fennelly.

The identities of the surviving victims are not being disclosed at this time for security reasons, according to Fennelly, who added that the surviving victims are men in their early twenties.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the East Orange Police Department.
