The 17th Annual CHS Cougar Boosters Golf Classic will be Monday, May 4 at the Maplewood Country Club. This event is the primary fundraiser for the Boosters, which funds many sports and extracurricular activities at Columbia High School each year.

The event kicks off at 11:15 a.m. with a festive brunch followed by an enjoyable day of golfing and socializing. Cap off the evening with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner, an auction and a raffle (and awards for best players!)

For more information, visit the CHS Cougar Boosters website.

“A strong high school makes for a better community and a strong range of supported extracurricular programming makes for a better high school,” said President Hank Zona. “Academic success is critical for getting into the best colleges and universities, but what a high school student does outside the classroom can help differentiate them from other students with similar academic success.”

The Boosters’ goal each year is to raise more money than the previous year. “The reality is we receive more requests every year and we have seen the average request we receive rise significantly,” Zona said.

Since 1994, the Boosters have:

  • Donated in excess of $240,000 to athletics and extra- curricular activities since 1994
  • Provided grants to CHS athletic teams including baseball, softball, tennis, swimming, field hockey, fencing, football, lacrosse, soccer, track and wrestling.
  • Provided additional financial resources for CHS extra- curricular activities including Midnight Madness, All-School Musical, Quiz-Bowl, Marching Band, Parnassian Society, The Columbian, Velocity Magazine, Robotics Club, Shakespeare Festival, Jazz Band and Ultimate Frisbee

The community can support the organization in a number of ways, including by attending the event, or providing raffle items and swag to give to attendees as well as to students who participate and perform at the event, including the Robotics Club, the Unaccompanied Minors a capella group and the CHS Jazz Orchestra.

The fee for an individual golfer is $225 and includes golf, cart, brunch and dinner.

If you can’t attend the entire day, there are several other ways to help:

  • Buy a tee sign ($100) or a family legacy sign ($300)
  • Become a corporate sponsor ($1,500 gets you golf, brunch and dinner for 4 players, plus a Tee-Sign and 4 raffle tickets)
  • Donate a door prize or grand prize
  • Sponsor brunch ($1,000) or dinner ($2,000)
  • Skip the golf and come just for dinner ($100)
