The 22nd annual Italian Night Fundraiser event presented by the Columbia High School Italian Language and Culture Club will be held Friday, February 5, at the CHS cafeteria. Club Advisor Enrica Funari explained the theme is “Italian Renaissance Knights” and is focused on the Northern Regions of Italy.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students. Make all checks payable to: Columbia High School (write Italian Night 2016 on memo), and send to Attn: Ms. Enrica Funari, Columbia High School, 17 Parker Avenue, Maplewood, New Jersey 07040.

Club Preside Matt Girardi and Vice President Kayla Shuster will host and emcee the entire evening.

The dinner will be catered by Reservoir Restaurant and will include penne vodka, chicken francese, broccoli, pizza, garlic knots, and zeppoles from Roman Gourmet. Entertainment will be provided by the Moreno Fruzzetti orchestra who will sing many Italian songs of yore. The girl’s vocem chorus will offer their entertainment of italian medlies. Many of the students will contribute their talents to the evening.

If last year’s festivities were any indication, participants are in for a treat. The event included entertainment by the Anthony Tabish Orchestra who sang opera medleys and authentic Neapolitan songs. Students performed the Italian National Anthem, guests were taught the tarantella, and the Girls Chorus performed. CHS teacher Michael Healy performed magical illusions and author Patricia Brady-Danzig narrated from her best selling books, and Steve Girardi, father of Matt Girardi, performed on his guitar, “Torna a Sorrento” Lastly, students experienced and watched a pizza twirl demo by two authentic pizza men who flipped the dough in the air while teaching students the art of tossing the pie.

The Italian Club donates to Fr. Monella Center and other organizations that promote Italian studies through grants in the U.S. and abroad.
