Football Coach John Power at CHS in Action Night 2016
John Power has announced his resignation as head football coach at Columbia High School and will be taking the head coaching position at Morristown High School, according to an email sent to parents of CHS football players on Wednesday.
Power announced his resignation on Monday, April 25.
Paul Steiner, President of the CHS Football Boosters Club, confirmed the announcement to parents of CHS football players with an email on Wednesday.
“While we’re disappointed to see Coach Power leave after the progress he’s helped make re-building our program, I wanted to let you know a plan is already place to bring in a replacement, with a tentative target date of May 30th or sooner,” wrote Steiner, who gave Village Green permission to quote his email.
Steiner reported that CHS Athletic Director Larry Busichio wanted parents to know that he “has a highly respected replacement candidate in mind with excellent coaching skills and experience that he hopes to be able to announce soon, but asks we are patient as there is a process he’s required to follow.”
Busichio also wanted parents to know that the CHS athletic department and school administration remained committed to “rebuilding this program.”
Steiner had kind words for Power, writing, “[W]e wish Coach Power the best in his career endeavors and look forward to some friendly competition on Friday, September 30th when his new team comes to Underhill Field to face our Cougars.”
