To the Editor:
I am endorsing Elizabeth Baker and Maureen Jones for our Board of Education.
Please get out and vote on Nov. 4 – it’s your chance to make a difference.
I’m a Maplewood parent who has been active in our school system. I’ve known and worked with Elizabeth for six years on projects such as bringing technology to our classrooms and making our schools safer. In both areas, we worked closely with the district. Elizabeth’s knowledge of the issues and her rational, thoughtful demeanor helped get things done.
Her insight, energy, dedication and ability to help people reach consensus even when substantial differences of opinion exist proved invaluable. Elizabeth’s work history uniquely qualifies her for this position. She’s an attorney with 18 years of experience. She sees the big picture yet also pays attention to the details.
I’ve also worked with Maureen Jones, last year’s PTA President at Clinton School, and served with her on the President’s Council for two years. Her qualifications are equally impressive. She’s a speech language pathologist with 20 years of experience working with special needs children in a variety of settings.
She understands children – how to engage them, motivate them and help them soar.
She knows how hard it is for teachers to manage classrooms full of children while trying to master the many state-mandated changes in curriculum and instruction. She also knows that our teachers can succeed, given the right support from the Board and the right instructional leadership from the administration.
Together, Elizabeth and Maureen are people I trust to help select our next superintendent and move our district forward. Please vote for Elizabeth Baker and Maureen Jones on Nov. 4.
