The following is from the Millburn School District.
On Monday, June 1st and Wednesday, June 3rd, Millburn Middle School will host their annual Spring Instrumental Music Concerts. Both concerts are free to the public and will begin at 7:00 PM in Millburn Middle School’s auditorium. Monday’s concert will feature students in the 6th Grade Concert Band, 7th Grade Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Students in all of our Orchestras, Wind Ensemble, and 8th Grade Concert Band will be highlighted on Wednesday evening.
On Monday evening, the 6th Grade Band, under the direction of Mr. Brian Fleming, will be performing a diverse program of music. Included is “Contredanse,” an exciting piece from composer Larry Clark, and “The Incredibles,” from composer Michael Giacchino. The 7th Grade Band, conducted by Mrs. Adrienne Blossey, will be performing “Mini Suite for Band” by Morton Gould and a wonderful selection by Nathan Daughtrey called “Downtown Dash.” The middle school’s talented Jazz Ensemble will finish the concert by playing “American Patrol,” a jazz standard, and Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.”
Mrs. Marie Tracy will lead our orchestra program Wednesday evening with a variety of music for both strings and full orchestra. The 6th Grade Orchestra will be performing Purcell’s famous “Voluntary and March.” Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 4” will be featured in the 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra program. Our middle school’s premiere string ensemble, the Select Strings, will be performing Leroy Anderson’s famous “Syncopated Clock.” Meanwhile, the full Symphonic Orchestra will entertain with Verdi’s “Grand March” from Aida.
Wednesday night will also feature more of our talented wind bands. The 8th Grade Band is performing “Normandy,” a work from composer Clare Grundman, and Brian Balmages’ “Hypnotic Fireflies.” Mrs. Blossey will be leading the 8th Grade Band in their performance. The Wind Ensemble, which earned a sixth straight Gold Rating at this year’s North Jersey Middle School Concert Band Festival, will be playing a challenging selection entitled “Lauda” by Timothy Miles. Mr. Fleming will also lead the Wind Ensemble in Frank Erickson’s standard entitled “Toccata for Band.”
