BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS: SUBURBAN LEAGUE TRAVEL TEAMS
Tryouts for both the Maplewood and South Orange boys travel basketball teams are scheduled for the month of October.
THE BOYS SUBURBAN BASKETBALL LEAGUE RULES REQUIRE THAT ALL PLAYERS BE RESIDENTS OF THE SPONSORING TOWN. Maplewood residents who wish to play must try out for the Maplewood team and South Orange residents for the South Orange team, regardless of where they attend school. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact the Maplewood or South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs.
SUBURBAN LEAGUE: The Departments of Recreation & Cultural Affairs sponsor basketball teams that travel and compete in the Suburban Essex League. The league is comprised of teams representing other nearby towns, generally within a 20-30 minute drive. Teams are formed based on the results of competitive tryouts. After tryouts, practices are held 2-4 times per week until the start of the season. Thereafter, the teams play 2 games per week and have 1-2 practices, on average. Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from practices and games and may be asked to assist with the program in other ways. The season ends mid-late February.
REGISTRATION FEE: A registration fee of $150-175 is due upon selection to the team.
SOUTH ORANGE BOYS SUBURBAN TEAM TRYOUTS
All boys trying out for the South Orange Suburban League teams MUST be residents of South Orange. All tryouts take place at SOUTH ORANGE MIDDLE SCHOOL. Players are expected to attend all scheduled tryouts.
5th & 6th Grade Boys: Thursday, Oct. 20, 6:00-8:00pm AND Saturday, Oct. 22, 12:00-2:00 pm
7th Grade Boys: Tuesday, Oct. 18, 8:00-10:00 pm AND Thursday Oct. 20, 8:00-10:00 pm
8th Grade Boys: Tuesday, Oct. 18, 6:00-8:00 pm AND Saturday, Oct. 22, 2:00-4:00 pm
MAPLEWOOD BOYS SUBURBAN TEAM TRYOUTS
- All Tryouts are held at MAPLEWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL
- All Players MUST attend BOTH tryouts
- All players MUST be residents of Maplewood
- All players MUST tryout for their specific grade level team. There is no “playing up”

5th Grade Boys:Tuesday October 18 & Thursday October 20 – 6:00pm to 7:30pm

7th Grade Boys: Monday October 17 & Wednesday October 19 – 7:30pm to 9:00pm
8th Grade Boys: Saturday October 15 – 11:30am to 1:00pm & Tuesday October 18 – 7:30pm to 9:00pm
SOUTH ORANGE AND MAPLEWOOD GIRLS TRYOUTS
For all Maplewood and South Orange girls interested in playing competitive basketball.
5th and 6th Grade: Monday October 24 Wednesday October 26 – 6:00pm to 7:30pm
7th and 8th Grade: Monday October 24 Wednesday October 26 – 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Open to Maplewood AND South Orange Residents You Must tryout for your grade level as listed above
