Reform Synagogue in South Orange Offers Creative Student-Centered Curriculum for Grades 1 through 7 Plus Hebrew High and Confirmation Class
Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI), the Reform synagogue in South Orange, is now accepting applications for fall 2016 for the Linda and Rudy Slucker Religious School. The school offers a comprehensive Reform Jewish education from grades K-12, with innovative programs to meet the needs of its diverse students and their different learning styles.
The curriculum blends classroom learning with interactive activities and discussions designed to connect students to all aspects of Reform Judaism through a variety of portals; these include artist-in-residence programs, music, art and multimedia projects, as well as a variety of informal education opportunities. Instruction is balanced between learning Hebrew and studying various aspects of Jewish history, culture, and values.
TSTI’s educators can personally tailor the educational experience for students, with customized Hebrew instruction and bar/bat mitzvah preparation to meet the needs of all learners. Post b’nai mitzvah instruction is available in confirmation classes and Hebrew High. The synagogue also provides bus service on Tuesday afternoons to and from Hartshorn Elementary School in Short Hills for a nominal fee.
Registration and curriculum details are available online at https://www.tsti.org/religious-school. Families are encouraged to visit the school in advance; if interested, please call Religious School Director Mindy Schreff at (973) 763-3793.
TSTI’s preschool and religious school have been recognized for their fresh approach to child-centered learning and for their commitment to inclusion in the classroom. Earlier this year, the WAE Center in West Orange tapped Religious School Director Mindy Schreff to help develop and pilot a new curriculum to guide educational institutions in understanding inclusion through a Jewish lens.
