Meanwhile, South Orange recently received another $1.3M to help complete the River Greenway from Third St to Waterlands Park to Chyzowych Field — where the path will connect with the new W. Parker-to-Jefferson section in Maplewood.

“This is the time to do this,” said Maplewood Township Committeeperson Dean Dafis. The TC is aiming for a November 2025 local ballot referendum while putting pressure on state legislators to pass an RCV bill.

Deputy Mayor Cripe said she feared Maplewood would become a less desirable place to live if “Midtown Direct doesn’t ‘Midtown directly'” get commuters in and out of NYC.”
