The Youth Advisory Committee says a jitney or shuttle is needed for teens to get to sports, studying and tutoring or jobs and would help them be more independent, self-sufficient and better able to use the town’s resources.

Current and former women elected officials wore white to honor women’s suffrage and posed for the now traditional annual group photo.

The four other members of the Maplewood Township Committee, including Mayor Nancy Adams, have endorsed U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, as have more than 100 other Democratic elected leaders in the 11th Congressional district.

To be considered for an endorsement by the Maplewood Democratic Committee, candidates must submit a letter of interest and a resume by March 3, 2025. The deadline to file a petition to be on the primary ballot — as a Republican or Democrat — is March 24, 2025. The primary is June 10.

“I am excited that my open seat will create opportunity for others to raise their hands and bring their unique voice to our government. … I believe in competitive elections, giving voters a choice, and I hope that more than one candidate will seek this position and run in the primary.”

The day of competition was also a celebration of legacy, as Joe Barbanel (Class of 1972) and Sydney Mannion (2022) shared reflections on the development of the game here in Maplewood, and what it now means to them, creating a bridge between generations of CHS Ultimate players.

The MDC and U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill distanced themselves from conditions that were apparently placed on a Maplewood mayoral candidate.

TC member Deb Engel, who seconded Adams’ nomination, said she had been courted for the Mayorship but lost votes when she failed to endorse Mikie Sherrill for NJ Governor.

Committee members agreed to the measure as the township continues to study traffic & pedestrian safety on Prospect.
