The Village of South Orange awarded an $11,500 contract to redesign its municipal website to CivicPlus, a company that specializes in creating municipal and governmental websites. CivicPlus redesigned Maplewood Township’s website in 2011.
The Board of Trustees voted on the contract at its Monday meeting. There was no discussion among the trustees, and no public comment, before the vote.
In January the township issued an RFP to find a new designer for a website based on a WordPress open-source platform. However, earlier this month, the BOT voted to cancel the RFP and seek a developer with a “proven track record.”
In 2012, the Village hired MetaRhythm to redesign its site, paying a total of $16,800.
In a January interview with The Village Green, former Village President Alex Torpey cited the benefits of using an open-source platform such as WordPress versus a proprietary system such as CivicPlus.
