Update, July 5, 12p.m., from Chief Robert Cimino:

“As a result of the fireworks event being rescheduled…certain required equipment was left in the park. In order to minimize the potential for damage, theft or disruption to the equipment and to keep the area clear, the West section of the South field was cordoned off and closed. To be clear there are no fireworks stored there, but some specialized equipment is in the park.

The East (Valley Street) side of the South field- opposite the amphitheater, has fencing up because it has not been removed yet, but that area is not closed to the public. The same explanation goes for the North field, the fencing has not been removed yet but the
North fields are not closed.

Parking restrictions in the area were modified for commuters but some areas had to be restricted in anticipation of the attendance at the event and the event preparations.
When the event preparation begins this evening at about 6 PM, metal fencing and other barriers will be erected again along Oakview Ave and other areas, to create a safety zone for emergency personnel and emergency vehicle acccess. Other road closures and detours will be eatablished prior to the fireworks as well.

We are adapting to the revised event situation and apologize for the inconvenience to our residents.”

From the Maplewood Police Department:

Due to the July 4th cancellation, the Township of Maplewood will be holding its fireworks on Tuesday 07/05/16 in Memorial Park on Valley Street, between Baker St. and Oakland Rd.

There will be some limited parking spaces available in the vicinity of the Maplewood Train Station until 5pm at which time most of the streets will have No Parking. Motorists are urged to please comply with the posted signage in the area.

Residents in the immediate and expanded area should be advised that the “No Parking” areas will be maintained and there will be various road closures in the area of this event. Non-emergency vehicles will not be permitted to enter a closed road due to pedestrian traffic. Most roads surrounding Memorial Park (Valley Street) will be closed from approximately 7pm to 10pm.
