Chef Jesse Jones will judge the Maplewood Wellness Fair Cooking Contest.

Chef Jesse Jones, local chef and television personality, will be judging the first-ever cooking contest at the Maplewood Wellness Fair on Saturday, September 20.

Jones will be judging entries in three categories — sweet, savory and vegetarian — from four different licensed Maplewood food vendors: Maplewood Deli & Grille, Tandoori Chef 2, the Park Wood Diner, and Winchester Gardens.

“What’s really cool about this contest,” said Maplewood Deputy Mayor Kathy Leventhal, “is that the food must be healthy!”

Free samples will be available to the public.

The contest gets underway on Oakview Street just off of Valley (the Wellness Fair takes place in Memorial Park) at approximately 12:30 p.m.

And cooking isn’t all that’s happening. More than 30 vendors will be displaying their wares and services from noon to 3 p.m. There will be Zumba and yoga demonstrations, blowup rides for the kids — “loads of kids stuff,” said Leventhal — and best of all free bike helmets for children who register their bicycles with the Maplewood Police Department. (Adults can register their bikes too, but they won’t get a free helmet. Sorry.)

The Maplewood Wellness Fair takes place on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from noon to 3 p.m. in Memorial Park, Maplewood. For more information about the Wellness Fair and Wellness Week, visit here.
