On Thursday, several Maplewood residents had the opportunity to take a morning stroll through the South Mountain Reservation with the five Buddhist monks currently constructing the mandala at The Woodland.
Lisa Mainardi organized the spur of the moment event and Risa Olinsky led the hike. The group walked around the trail by the dog park, and the monks were said to love the view of New York City. When they saw the rock with the plaque commemorating George Washington, they all pointed at it and posed for pictures.
The monks have been staying with host families in town over the past week.
The Maplewood Mandala Project comes to a close on Saturday; read more information here.
