Friends of Laura Nichols, the South Orange mother, businesswoman and community fixture who passed away Friday morning, are coordinating an initiative to adorn South Orange and Maplewood trees with orange ribbons.
Nichols’ friend Mary Marzano said her sister, Ann Marzano Bauer, chose orange because it “combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow” and “is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation” — qualities that seem to define Nichols.
“It would be beautiful to see Maplewood and South Orange strewn in orange!” wrote Bauer.
Meanwhile, the Gofundme site set up by Marzano and other friends has raised almost $20,000 in less than 24 hours. Donations will help Nichols’ family with funeral and other expenses.
The wake and funeral will be held next week.
