We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but it’s Labor Day weekend — the last days of the season for the Maplewood and South Orange town pools.
Because most staff members are in school during the day, only the main pool of the Maplewood Community Pool is open before 4 p.m. on Friday, September 4. However, after 4 p.m., the dive tank, baby pool, and training pool are open until sunset.
“Hours over Labor Day weekend will be normal” at the Maplewood Pool, reported Department of Recreation Director Keith Knudsen, “since our staff will not be in school.” Normal weekend hours are 10 a.m. until 10 minutes before sunset (note that the pool closes now before 8 p.m. because — more bad news — it’s getting darker earlier).
In South Orange, the pool is closed Friday, September 4. Labor Day weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The annual South Orange Pool Party for Adults will take place Tuesday, September 8, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include “a swim and BBQ.” The fee for South Orange I.D. holders and Senior Circle members is $5. The fee for all others is $8 per person. Advance registration is required by Sept. 5 at the Baird.
