After 38 years as director of Prospect Co-op Preschool, Betsy Geiger is handing over the position to Dana Cavanaugh, who is currently the teacher in the four-year-old class.

“I am thrilled to have Dana take up the reins here at Prospect. She has just the perfect combination of knowledge and empathy to establish a creative environment for children and their families and carry on the wonderful traditions of Prospect Co-op,” said Geiger.

Cavanaugh graduated from Fordham University with a Masters of Education for Nursery through Grade 6 and The University of Scranton with a BA in Communication and a minor in studio art.

“Dana is so great with the kids, she brings fun science experiments and art projects into the classroom; and the kids love being with her,” said Prospect Co-op parent Tracey Woods. When asked about her teaching philosophy Cavanaugh explained that she lied to give children “a playful environment that fosters a love for learning, that they can carry with them. Fostering a child’s social, emotional, and creative growth is so important and it is such a gift to be a part of it.”

A release from the school described Geiger as “much loved” and characterized the goodbye as “tearful.” However, it continued, “The Prospect Co-op Community so pleased to have a new director who will continue to implement the research-based curriculum that Prospect Co-op is so known for.”
