Seton Hall Students Report Alleged Assault by Rival Frat Members, Police Say

Two Seton Hall University students reported that they were assaulted by two other students who are members of a rival fraternity, according to South Orange Police. The victims told police they were standing on the sidewalk on South Orange Avenue at 1:00 am on Friday, when the two men — one of whom they knew — jumped out of a vehicle, pushed them to the ground, and punched and kicked them, police said. The victims told police they believe the assault was unprovoked.

Adult Arrest
Nicole Phillips, a 34 year old West Orange resident was arrested for outstanding warrants at 3:07 pm, Monday 9-21-15. SOPD officers stopped Phillips for a motor vehicle violation and further investigation revealed the arrest warrants. Officers arrested Phillips and transported her to headquarters where she was processed accordingly.

Shoplifting
The owner of the Beauty Supply store on So. Orange Ave reported that an unknown actor shoplifted approximately $60.00 in items from his store on Monday, 9-22-15 at 3:15 pm. The store owner described the actor as a black male with a low haircut, wearing a gray T shirt and blue jeans. After taking the items, the actor exited the store, went east on So. Orange Ave and then south through Municipal Lot #5. A search of the area for the actor was negative. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

9/21/2015
Theft
An Academy Street resident reported that at 12:30 am on Saturday, 9-19-15 an unknown actor stole the victim’s iPhone 5. The victim stated that the actor, described as a 5’6″, black male with short hair, wearing a red T shirt, blue jeans and sneakers asked to use her cell phone to make a call. The victim stated the actor then walked off with the phone, last seen heading west on First Street. Attempts to track the phone were unsuccessful.

Burglary
At approximately 10:20 pm on Sunday, 9-20-15, a Clark Street resident reported that as he was about to enter his house, he observed an unknown actor inside the home. The resident immediately called police, SOPD units responded but a search for the actor was negative. The resident described the actor as a thin, dark skinned, black male with short hair, approximately 5’7″ in height wearing a black short sleeve shirt and black pants. It appears that entry was gained through a first floor window. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Burglary
A Second Street resident reported that between the hours of 12:50 pm and 7:30 pm on Thursday, 9-17-15 actor(s) unknown entered the apartment, possibly through a second floor bathroom window. Nothing is reported to be missing at this time. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Auto Theft
A Vose Avenue resident reported that between the hours of 8:00 pm Friday, 9-18-15 and 2:00 pm Saturday, 9-19-15 actor(s) unknown removed his vehicle (2013 Toyota) from his parking space behind his apartment building. Several personal belongings and paperwork were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft. Actor(s)attempted to use one of the victim’s credit cards, but the purchases were declined by the credit card company.

Adult Arrest
Daryl Coleman, a 41 year old East Orange resident was arrested at 9:42 am on Thursday, 9-17-15 for outstanding warrants out of Newark. SOPD officers, working a motor vehicle inspection detail stopped Coleman for a what appeared to be a fraudulent inspection sticker. Further investigation at the scene revealed the outstanding arrest warrant. Officer arrested Coleman without incident and transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.

Suspicious Person
At 12:24 pm on Thursday, 9-17-15 SOPD officers observed a white female in the area of Municipal Lot # 5 approach several vehicles and pedestrians asking for money. Officers stopped the woman and checked her for wants and warrants with negative results. Officers advised the woman to stop panhandling and she was sent on her way.

Adult Arrest/CDS
Rodney Carney, a 22 year old Newark resident was arrested on Thursday 9-17-15 at 10:56 am for possession of CDS. SOPD officers, working a motor vehicle inspection detail stopped Carney for an expired inspection sticker. Further investigation during the stop revealed that Carney was in possession of marijuana. Officers arrested Carney without further incident and transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.

9/14/2015
Trespassing/arrest
David Boone, an 18 year old Newark resident was arrested on 9-13-15 at approximately 2:20am after he was asked to leave a residence on Valley St. yet refused to do so. The subject was arrested without incident, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Theft of bicycle
A South Orange resident stated that on 9-11-15 at approximately 8:00am he had locked his bicycle (red and black Mongoose)to the bike rack located at the main train station and when he returned to it at 3:00pm he discovered that it had been stolen.

Theft
An Irvington resident stated that on 9-12-15 at approximately 11:45am she left her backpack unattended in a store on Irvington Ave. and when she returned to it a few minutes later she discovered that some electronics had been removed from same.

Theft
A victim stated that he had two fishing poles removed from an unlocked shed behind his establishment located on Valley St. sometime during the early part of September.
