They weren’t kidding about the action.
Tonight at CHS in Action Night, Columbia High School clubs and sports teams showed off their goods, wares, grooves and moves. The hallways were jammed with students — including rising 8th graders from South Orange and Maplewood middle schools checking out their extracurricular options for 9th grade and beyond.
Added to the crowds of kids, one could find robots rolling, dancers dancing, fencers fencing and, yes, drones flying. (“We’re the only high school drone club in the country,” one club member said.)
“This event is when our student activities, advisors, coaches, teams, some performing arts groups and clubs, and more show off their work and talents and encourage students to learn more about the very rich extracurricular experiences available to our students,” wrote CHS Principal Elizabeth Aaron in an email to 8th grade parents this week.
“The event takes place throughout our building, including our theater spaces, hallways, and some classrooms.”
Indeed, the event even took to the clock tower where parents and students could climb seven stories to view the Astronomy Club’s telescope and capture great views of Maplewood and South Orange.
“There’s a lot of action!” said Language Arts teacher Suzanne Ryan.
You can say that again.
