From the South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs:
Join the South Orange Community Garden and grow your own vegetables and flowers starting this spring.
South Orange has an all-organic community garden, located in Riverside Park on Third Street, just west of the Rahway River. There are 48 raised-bed plots in full sun where residents can grow tomatoes, lettuce, zinnias, cosmos and many other annuals.
Gardeners work together to keep the garden beautiful and donate part of their harvest to local food banks. Experienced gardeners will give you tips on how to get the most out of your garden and social events are also on the calendar. The gardening season is from April to November.
Registration for the Community Garden begins Saturday, January 16th at the Baird. Proof of residency is required. The fee is $70 for one plot. Registration is limited to the first 48 South Orange households. Only one plot per household, please.
