Maplewood resident Kim Aiken Cockerham was crowned Miss America 25 years ago. She reposted a photo from her win on social media as she awaited the results of tonight’s contest.
The post read:
“In Honor of the Miss America Pageant that will be held this weekend, I’m posting my moment in time from 1994! Best wishes to all of the young women competing. Someone’s life will be changed forever!”
Aiken Cockerham was the first African-American woman crowned Miss South Carolina and the fifth woman of African descent crowned Miss America.
After her Miss America reign, she earned a degree from New York University. According to her Facebook page, she is now Vice President of Operations at Health Force, LLC.
