Due to the tragic mass shooting in Orlando last weekend, North Jersey Pride has adjusted its final Pride Month event scheduled for Tuesday evening, June 21.

Formerly, the final event was to be a panel discussion on about the unique experience of LGBTQ parenting, but in light of the tragedy, organizers have decided to change the focus of the event to “How to Talk About Orlando,” a conversation about how to discuss the Orlando shooting with children and teens.

The event organizers and co-sponsors, which include Met Life, Family Equality Council and Spence-Chapin’s Modern Family Center (in addition to North Jersey Pride), all agree that this is the conversation that the community needs right now. Scott Fried, a health educator who works with LGBTQ families and teens, will facilitate the discussion.

LGBTQ and supportive ally attendees are welcome. The June 21 event is free and will open with a half-hour wine reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the panel at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Church of the Holy Innocents, 681 Prospect Ave, West Orange.

RSVP to events@northjerseypride.org.
