The Clinton School community and SOMA Bike Bus community are raising funds to help support a local dad and his family as he recovers from a hit-and-run last week.
On Feb. 25, John Speck was cycling on Parker Avenue in Maplewood when he was struck by a vehicle and dragged 500 feet. He was transported to University Trauma Center in Newark. Speck is the leader of the Clinton Bike Bus, part of a growing network of parents shepherding elementary students to school on bikes throughout South Orange and Maplewood. Speck was not riding as part of the bike bus when he was struck last Wednesday evening.
