I support Donna Smith for South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education.
Here are the three main reasons that Donna has my vote.
First, Donna is a calm, thoughtful and intelligent person who always acts in the best interests of her community and neighbors. She has volunteered for years in the community, and is well-known for her big heart and spirit of inclusivity. Not only is she a great person, she’s also an accomplished attorney and professional with a sharp eye for keeping the school administration accountable.
Second, of all the candidates running, Donna is the most conscious about the burden of property taxes on the local community. As a parent of two-school aged children, I trust her to balance the needs of my children with the financial strain that many families (including mine) are facing.
Third, Donna supported the school district’s recent access and equity policy. This policy opens up access to higher level courses to all students, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. But it also preserves some class levels so that kids can excel where they find they have a strength and passion. It’s the right balance for our schools.
With Donna in office, we will keep our schools excellent while ensuring that families aren’t driven out of the community due to gentrification. Please join me in voting for Donna Smith for South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education.
