The Hilton Neighborhood Association (HNA) held its most recent meeting at Maplewood Crossing, the new rental apartment building on Burnett Avenue in the Hilton area of Maplewood.

The meeting, held in the building’s Community Room, was attended by HNA members as well as Maplewood Crossing residents, said HNA President Carol Buchanan.

“It was very pleasant to meet at the new apartments and for old and new Maplewoodians to get to know each other,” said Buchanan.

Mayor Vic DeLuca gave a presentation titled, “What’s Happening in Maplewood,” and answered residents’ questions. Representatives from the Police and Fire Departments also spoke, as did Julie Doran of the Springfield Avenue Partnership, who held a drawing featuring gift certificates provided by Avenue merchants.

HNA Vice-President Melissa Hodgins presented the annual garden awards — gift certificates to Gigi’s Cupcakes — to nine Hilton families who had especially attractive gardening, said Buchanan. The HNA held a 50/50 raffle drawing, which is its main fundraiser for the year. Refreshments were provided by the HNA and Bonita Gilliard, Weichert Realtor for Maplewood Crossing.

Gilliard said both buildings at Maplewood Crossing, developed by Elite Properties, were over 90% leased. She said residents were very happy about the feeling of community there, as well as the easy access to the Maplewood train station via the jitney.

The apartments feature granite countertops, hardwood flooring, private terraces, washers and dryers in every unit, stainless steel appliances, and central heat and air, she said. Building amenities include outdoor parking and a heated parking garage with bike racks, as well as an on-site gym and a community room for daily tenant use, said Gilliard.
