Four firefighters suffered minor injuries while working to suppress a three-alarm fire on Hillside Place in South Orange on Saturday.
According to South Orange Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan, the firefighters were treated at the scene by the South Orange Volunteer Rescue Squad and transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
The fire took place in a 2-1/2-story single family home, starting on the second floor and traveling to the attic and roof. Sullivan said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fire companies from Orange and Maplewood provided mutual aid in fighting the fire.

Incident Information:
The South Orange Public Safety Answering Point ( PSAP) received a 911 call reporting a house fire at 421 Hillside Place. On arrival, Incident Command reported a working house fire. South Orange Firefighters immediately entered this 2 ½ story wood frame home and attacked this evolving fire that had transmitted from a second floor void space through the roof structure. Mutual aid engine companies from the Orange Fire Department and Maplewood Fire Department were summoned to assist with suppression and overhauling activities. A second alarm was struck for additional mutual aid companies from surrounding departments shortly thereafter and a third alarm was struck due to intense manual suppression efforts in the attic space. Due to an aggressive interior attack by all firefighters, this fire was contained and extinguished without further extension. This incident was declared under control at 6:36 PM by Incident Command.

Fire Investigators are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of this structure fire that caused substantial fire damage to the second floor and roof structure.
