Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 6 at 2 a.m. and you know what that means — time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
That’s easier said than done if you are a senior. Step ladders can be treacherous and those smoke detector covers can be difficult to remove. That’s why the Maplewood Fire Department is available to inspect and replace batteries in smoke detectors for seniors.
From Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Dingelstedt:
The Fire Department is available to assist with smoke/CO detector batteries, as well as to assist with expiration dates. We have some batteries available if necessary and also have smoke detectors if any seniors need replacements. We also offer free home fire safety inspections for all residents in town. To schedule an appointment for assistance with batteries or to have smoke detectors installed, residents should call 973-762-6500, ext 10 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Home safety inspections can be scheduled by calling 973-763-6500, ext. 13 during the same hours. I have attached information about both programs. Thank you.
