On Wednesday afternoon, the South Orange Fire Department was one of 10 mutual aid departments to provide support in fighting a fire in a duplex on North Day Street in Orange.
According to South Orange Acting Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan, “South Orange Engine 8-5 responded on a signal 11 directly to the scene in the early stages of this incident and conducted fire attack and suppression on the second and third floors in this large frame multi family structure.”
NJ.com reports that, while residents were home in one of the units, everyone was evacuated safely and no-one was injured. The duplex may need to be torn down due to the extensive damage from the three-alarm fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Read the full NJ.com report and see photos and video here.
It’s been a busy week for the fire departments of the two towns, with Maplewood FD providing support at a three-alarm house fire on Ohio Street in Union on Wednesday morning.
