The following was posted on the South Orange Police Department Facebook page on Wednesday, 9/21/16:

In light of recent incidents and the arrest of a subject believed to be responsible for bombings in NY & NJ, South Orange Police Department would like residents to know that the men and woman who serve our community each and every day will continue to do so diligently.

Officers will continue to monitor areas where everyday gatherings of individuals occur. Foot patrols and physical sweeps of areas such as our train station have increased. We will continue to police, patrol and engage our citizens, our neighborhoods and our downtown Village with vigilance and professionalism.

As the Chief of Police, I ask that each citizen recognize the difficult times we all face throughout our communities and that public safety is and will always remain a joint effort between both citizens and their respective law enforcement officers.

I implore citizens to contact our Police Department immediately with any and all information that appears to be suspicious or unusual in nature while understanding that seconds truly do count.

Our main number is 973-763-3000 but don’t hesitate to call 911 if needed.

Residents can contact our Community Relations Bureau at (973) 763-3000 x.7802 to receive additional information on home and personal safety measures.

Respectfully,

Chief Kyle M. Kroll
