The Columbia High School (CHS) Cougars will host the Robo-Catastrophe Qualifying Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 16. This is a free, fun, family-friendly event and, “a look into the future,” said Allan Tumolillo, who leads CHS’ award-winning robotics program.
This event is the largest tournament in the state other than the state championship, with some 36 teams competing. The public is welcome to attend to meet the teams and watch the robots in action. Doors open at 8 a.m., with matches beginning around 10 a.m.
Each match features four robots, representing two teams, who perform an assigned task. The team members not only build, but code and program the robots. The matches end with a tournament championship match around 3 p.m. Spectators are welcome to come for some or all of the day.
“Come watch the Columbia team compete,” says Tumolillo. “You can also walk around in the cafeterias and talk to the team members from all over New Jersey. Robotics teams are distinguished by being extremely gracious and will answer your questions.”
The Cougars will also hold a bake and pizza sale open to the public.
Tumolillo promises “lots of action.”
And don’t forget to support the home team, Team 4102, the Varsity CHS Cougars.
