Almost 2,000 young players ages 5 to 14 will be marching in the annual South Orange Maplewood Baseball/Softball parade this Saturday, April 30, to kick off the 2016 season.
The parade will wend from the New Waterlands Fields off of Third Street in South Orange to Cameron Field near the Baird Center in South Orange. (Note: There will be no parking at New Waterlands.)
Players, who will be resplendent in their new uniforms, will step off at 9:00 a.m. sharp. The route will take the players from 3rd Street to Sloan Street, left on South Orange Avenue and right after the Village Service Station along the river. The Opening Day Ceremony will take place on Cameron Field and will feature South Orange Village President Sheena Collum and Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca throwing out the “first pitch.”
After the parade, watch for a flurry of activity on fields around the towns as the matchups begin. The fair and balanced Village Green team will be reporting in at Memorial Park Field 5 at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, going up against the icy cold power of the Carvel team. We’ll be there to cheer them on!
