The brand new South Orange Ice Rink — at the tennis courts at The Baird — will open today, Thursday, at 3:30 p.m., at 5 Mead Street.
The rink is open to South Orange residents with a current Recreation Department Membership I.D. and their guests. The guest fee is $5 per person per day. Don’t have your 2016 I.D. Badges yet? You can get one at The Baird; 2015 badges are also valid.
The rink will be open for the winter season, weather and ice permitting, Monday-Friday 3:30pm to 9:00pm, Saturdays 12:00pm-9:00pm and Sundays 12:00pm-6:00pm. For more information call the Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs at 973-378-7754, ext. 1.
The rink is part of an effort spearheaded by South Orange Village Trustee Steve Schnall. The village placed a vinyl rink on top of the courts and filled it with 4-6 inches of water.
After a relatively warm beginning to the winter, it has now been sufficiently cold for a long enough time to open the rink.
Remember: bring your own skates!
