After confusion and fear surrounding Code Yellows at CHS, Acting Supt. vows stricter enforcement of student IDs, limited entrances, door alarms and technology upgrades.

Meanwhile, Maplewood police report: “Officers were able to locate students from another area high school a few blocks away. The students’ parents and schools were contacted and the juveniles were ultimately turned over to family members.”

A second Code Yellow was called in the afternoon: “The police again swept the building and determined it was safe to dismiss students. The police remained on campus through the afternoon as students were dismissed. At no time were any weapons found.”

“We will do everything in our power that we can to try to make this situation, this time period, less frightening for you,” said Public Safety Chair Jamaine Cripe to public commenters.

An image of a swastika was discovered on December 15. On January 5, images of swastikas and the “N word” were discovered.

Christopher Ransom allegedly hit Artie’s, Sabatino’s and an auto shop on Millburn Avenue earlier this month. He was also charged in a similar incident at Pickett’s in June.

The Maplewood Township Committee has directed the police department to immediately review its policies to ensure compliance with the law.
