Maplewood Community Pool members who were willing to shell out $10 for a Freeman’s lobster roll, we have some bad news and some good news.
The lobster rolls will not be returning for the 2015 season. However, some new menu items — such as funnel cakes and churros — are on the way.
Why the change?
RS Food Express of Roselle, NJ bid the highest amount for the 2015 pool concession contract — $22,500 — while Freeman’s bid was a distant third-place $15,000.99. (SA Food Associates of Linden bid $18,000.) Maplewood Recreation Director Keith Knudsen noted that the The Township Committee will be reviewing and approving the contract tonight at the Township Committee meeting (7:30 p.m. at Maplewood Town Hall).
RS Food Express, Inc. has submitted a menu (see below) that includes egg sandwiches for breakfast ($3-5 depending on add-ons of cheese and taylor ham), pizza slices ($2), churros ($2), funnel cakes ($4), hotdogs ($2.50), hamburgers ($4), bacon cheeseburgers ($5), Philly cheesesteaks ($5.75), tuna melts ($5), crab cake sandwiches ($5), chicken tenders ($4.50), fish & chips ($7) and much more.
Healthy foods include yogurt, fresh fruit cup, tossed garden salad, Caesar salad, and a spring salad with cranberries, walnuts and gorgonzola.
The pool is scheduled to open Saturday, May 23.
